But now that she’s going to high school, Haruna decides to put all of her energy towards getting a boyfriend and having the high school romance of a lifetime. To help in her quest, she enlists cute upperclassman Yoh Komiyama to coach her as she eschews her jock tendencies and turns herself into the kind of girl who can catch a guy. High School Debut is one of those titles you shouldn’t judge by their blurb. This series has so much to offer you in terms of entertainment, life lessons and romance. The series follows the eccentric, hyperactive Haruna and she actively seeks a boyfriend wearing outfits such as the one below in public in order to look “desirable” to the opposite sex. As you can see she looks nothing short of ridiculous and is definitely not going to attract a sane male companion wearing such strange attire. Eventually Haruna insists that Yoh, (a handsome fellow who attends her school) should coach her to become more desirable in order to get boyfriend. Naturally they fall in love.

This manga is really enjoyable due to the fact that the characters are so playful; they mock themselves openly, they overreact on a regular basis and have the perfect balance between serious conversations and random drabbles about pointless topics. If I were to compare the style and flow of this manga I would compare it to Ouran High School Host Club (LINK) as the focal characters personalities are almost identical and there fore the manga gives off a similar feel.

I definitely recommend this title to anyone who enjoys watching a protagonist work had to find their soulmate rather than have everything fall into place from the start. This is also a great manga for people who are new to reading Shoujo titles.
